S/Sgt. Guy N. Shipe

The radio operator's position was in the upper fuselage aft of the cockpit.  Sgt. Shipe of Pennsylvania sat for hours on end listening to the static crackling in his ears and giving position reports every 30 minutes, assisting the navigator in taking fixes and informing headquarters of targets attacked and results.  When needed, Sgt. Shipe manned the top turret guns.
